inside surf road: Choosing Your Home's Vibe with Mood Boards
In design we use mood boards to really set the scene and get a feel for what a client resonates with most. It's one thing to say we're using yellow as the accent color and focusing on mid century modern design aspects and have a mental image of what that looks like, but then to see the whole scope in front of you you might change your mind completely.
If i was presented with this mood board personally I would say "too much yellow, I can't live with that" Whereas, a client might be really into it solidifying the next moves of the design or they might say I love it but I want more patterns, etc. Seeing everything together might completely shift the inspiration of a room which is why mood board are such in integral part of the design process!
For example, we are working on a home for a family that is situated on an ideallic waterfront property in Maine. The space pays homage to the family homes there before it and at the same time needs to feel like an extension of the Maine landscape on the other side of the window. Knowing this, we presented them with three mood boards and had a very strong idea which one they were going to choose and guess what.....we were wrong!
