a walk through of our client mood board process

Mood boards. The ageless tool for pulling together all of those floating thoughts in your brain. I can remember cutting out images from magazines and covering pages on my notebook with inspirational collages and the joy that brought me....now so many years late I still get a spark of joy from putting together (much more aesthetically pleasing) mood boards for clients!

When we start the process of working with a client at Surf Road we ask them to send us a few images they've collected to get an idea of the look they are going for in their space. Moodboardng has a ton of benefits, and is absolutely the first step in any project.

Moodboarding not only helps you define your aesthetic, but also helps narrow down color palettes, define textures and crafts a cohesive vision for your entire project. Sometimes, through moodboarding, you can completely change your vision, narrowing it down from something super broad, to a more niche aesthetic.

For example, our client on the #SRSurreyLane project initially thought she wanted a modern farmhouse style home for her addition including her new kitchen, dining room and living room. Through moodboarding, we were really able to niche down that broad and undefined theme to something that fit her vision to a tee. What started as "Modern Farmhouse" turned into "Modern Tuscan Cottage" over the course of a few weeks.

From there we can began pulling in our own inspiration - picking one or two elements from their picks and using those to get the create juices flowing. I was drawn to the natural wood, the cream, white, and lighter blue toned fabrics, as well as the black from the tile photo. Now it's time to put it all together!

Once we send that mood board over we can begin sourcing items based on feedback from the client. The mood board helps to create a cohesive plan with really tangible inspiration. Without having everything in one place it can be hard to translate vision. Let us know what you think of this mood board! You can also shop some of the pieces from this post below!
