Trend Alert: Boucle and Shearling

Getting its start in mid century Europe, Boucle is certainly not a new texture on the scene, but take a look through any Pinterest board or Arch Digest and it sure is having its moment in the spotlight now!

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a trend with such power… everything and I mean EVERYTHING comes in boucle right now. From pillows to to ottomans and even clothing and footwear, Boucle, and it's close cousin shearling, is all around us. And why not? It's soft, cozy and inviting, giving a specialness and dimension to even the most neutral of designs.

We're not the only ones who love it, either! As one fellow designer wrote, “Boucle fabric has numerous home décor uses, including making cozy furniture. As people try to spend more time with their loved ones at home, warm and inviting home décor is essential. Boucle offers exactly this in a variety of ways. It is a soft-textured fabric that is great for upholstering sofas and chairs. Silky boucle fabric pairs well with furniture pieces with curved edges because the soft curves of the furniture complement the fabric.” - Treasury.
