chairs that go together

Open concept homes have become increasingly popular in recent years, and for good reason. By eliminating walls and barriers between rooms, these homes create a spacious and airy environment that encourages interaction and communication between family members and guests. One challenge we often see with the open concept plan is that the ability to see all of the furniture in each room from one spot means it's extra important that everything works together. This is another big challenge we often see, is that clients know what they like, but have a hard time tying it together, or creating a cohesive look. We are currently working with a client who is building an addition onto the first floor of their home. The addition will house an open kitchen and dining space, which will also be open to the current living room space. The area is massive, creating 4 different zones, each requiring a different style of chair. Getting all of these chairs to look good together, but not be too similar, requires a certain amount of design skill! One way to ensure that your chairs work together cohesively is to choose a unifying element. This could be a common color, texture, or material that ties all of the chairs together. For example, you might choose chairs with the same wood finish or upholstered in the same fabric. As you can see above, we chose chairs that all have a similar shape and wood tone. This wya you can mix and match different styles of chairs, thereby creating a curated,  and custom look, while maintaining some element of cohesion, whether it's through color, material, or shape. We put together this graphic for our client to help her choose chairs. Each row represents the whole downstairs chair selections.
