Surf Road Project No. 31: A Mudroom Renovation

As anyone who lives in Maine (or Frankly, anywhere with kids!) knows, a proper mudroom is an absolutely essential room in any home. It is the storage place for all sporting equipment, a seasonally rotating home for all weather-related gear, a drop zone for backpacks, lunch boxes, packages, and so much more. It is also, most often, the place of most common entry for your home. The first thing someone sees when they walk in. So not only should it be completely functional for your family's specific needs, it needs to convey the vibe you want people to feel when walking into your home. For us that often means beautiful tile, painted cabinets that hide the crazy mess, and an assortment of other cute but functional accessories.

So when our clients at Surf Road Project No. 31 came to us with a less than optimal mudroom situation and asked us to revamp it, we were happy to oblige! While this project is still in the planning phase, I am excited to share the progress we are making on the plans, and the incredible transformation that moving a door and taking out a couple of walls can have on a space!

The Floor plan Before

The walls in red are the ones that are coming out, while the brown walls will move backwards. For now ignore the dining room, a project we will share at a later time!

Proposed Floor Plan

As you can see from the top-level rendering above, we are suggesting to move the entry door to the opposite side of the garage wall. This allows for a better flow when entering the space. We also removed the closet and moved the bathroom door back, further opening the space, creating room for a custom built in and entry table. Finally we removed the laundry room door, and created a custom laundry cabinet, with a sliding door that can conceal the laundry area when not tidy. This is a major upgrade for our clients, and a cost-effective way to gain more space by reimagining what you already have.

Creating a welcoming entry without renovating

No time, budget or energy to renovate? Been there. A beautiful entry table, which doubles as a small drop zone for keys, mail, etc. can create a welcoming entry for your guests, without breaking the bank.
