Love the look of an all white kitchen but afraid of being bored or boring? Our clients are choosing to skip the snooze-fest with the latest trend in countertops and backsplashes: dramatic stone! Although the title of this post is "marble", we are really seeing this across all types of stone, including quartz, quartzite, granite and more! If you are afraid to go all in on this trend, think about limiting the space to the wet bar, island, or even a powder room to dip your toes. You can bring the drama to your stone in a lot of different ways. There are many[...]

Surf Road Valentine’s Day Gift Guide

My Love/Hate With Valentine's DaySure, I love celebrating love just as much as the next girl, but the truth is I'm a little "loved out" by Valentine's Day! With our dating anniversary being in December, Christmas, and then our wedding anniversary in January, it's a loooot of lovey dovey cards to write. Usually we skip it all together, but this year I'm feeling extra grateful for my supportive husband, and in the mood to keep the celebrations going. Of course that means I rounded up a few things I wouldn't mind getting this Valentine's Day, but a lot would work as[...]

PROPAGATING Plants, lessons from local green thumbs

propagating, plant life, plant propagating, lifestyle blog surf road, diy

Last week I had the privilege of spending way too much time in Allen Sterling & Lothrop, a falmouth greenhouse and boutique. Being a lifelong Skillens super fan i had always noticed this shop while driving down main street but never stopped in - and I'm SO glad that I did on this day! We needed a couple of plants with pretty specific elements. One needed to be low, i.e. growing outward rather than upward and also could withstand tons of direct sunlight. One that would grow in a draping fashion that was also good with low light and easy to propagat[...]

Surf Road Paint Color Round Up

design, designer, paint, paint colors, choices, lifestyle, lifestyle blog

Paint is soooo soooo tricky. You pick a color and love it for a year but eventually need a change. The blue you saw in a magazine doesn't quite match your options in store. Light can fade the color on a sun facing wall, etc. etc. etc. But paint is also so fun. You never have to commit to an entire room you can paint an accent wall. you can paint over paint as many times as you like. Go with a subtle color or something bold. Seriously have fun with it! But of course as I'm typing this I am aware that with so many choices picking a paint color can be overwh[...]

GRWM: Breaking down my basic skincare and easy makeup routine

liz kirby maine grwm

Anybody else feel like when you work from home you end up by looking like a complete bridge troll 90% of the time? I saw a meme once, that I completely resonated with, that was something like "I'm either a bridge troll or a trophy wife, there is no in between", and ya, that's basically me. Don't call this a resolution, but I am committed to finding some middle ground. Even though I work from home a lot, there are a lot of "home" days where something will come up with a project and I have to run out. Then, as one does, I'll convince myself that I'm alre[...]

inside surf road: How to Make Any Shower A Spa Shower and a Sneak-Peek at liz’s Haircare Routine

spa shower diy

Did you know you can easily make any shower into a spa shower by simply adding a sprig of Eucalyptus to your showerhead?! Hanging a sprig of Eucalyptus in your shower can reduce stress, improve respiratory health, and generally make your shower that much more soothing! How does it work? The steam from your hot shower releases essential oils from the plant, which has very soothing (albeit temporary) effects! I stocked up on sprigs for all of my showers at Fiddleheads in Cape Elizabeth, but you can ask your local florist if you want to recreate this look[...]
