Design Challenge: Toy Organization

We were recently asked a design challenge question on Instagram about how to organize your kids toys, especially when you don't have a designated room for them (or, really, even if you do!). Since holidays are right around the corner and those toy collections are only getting bigger by year's end, we thought we would reach out to our very own project manager, Stacy, owner of Half Full Organizing, to give us the how to on toy organizing. As the owner of Half Full Organizing (and Mom of two young girls), I understand the importance of keeping things simple[...]

2023 Fall Market Home Decor Trends You Need to Know!

This past October I had the pleasure of joining a fellow Maine designer, Vanessa Helmick of Fiore Interiors, at the High Point Fall Market in High Point, North Carolina. I have been intimidated by attending this Market the last 2 years, and was SO thankful that Vanessa volunteered to take me under her wing. Over the course of 2 days we scoured vendors and showrooms for the latest trends in home decor, and all the vendors who would give us (and therefore our clients!) the best deals ever on high quality, beautiful home furnishings. The Trends for 2024 A[...]

Thanksgiving Table IDeas: Incorporating Your Ugly Family Heirlooms

We all have them, an "ugly" family heirloom that holds great sentimental value but completely opposes the aesthetic of our modern decor. Chances are, it was your grandmother's or favorite uncle's, and it means a great deal to have it on the table during these special family gatherings. So, how do you include Grammy's vintage ceramics, and still slay the Thanksgiving Tablescape Game? READ ON, my friends! When we asked you about your own family heirlooms on Insta, we got a lot of replies about everything from the overly ornate dishware set to aggressively k[...]

Follower Request: How do I mix wood tones in a living room, i.e. floors, console, coffee table, etc.

Sometimes, a design challenge question is so common or juicy, we just feel the need to answer it right here in the blog! This follower request from Instagram is one of the most common questions we get from our clients, and one of the biggest challenges homeowners face when redecorating their homes! Oftentimes, we are not starting from scratch with our furnishings (although, when we are, what a dream!), and so we are mixing old furniture items we love with new, updated items. Many times the wood tones are not going to be exact, and often they will not even be clos[...]

Shop the Mood Board: 35 Hideaway Lane

As some of you may know, we have found ourselves a little niche here at Surf Road. In addition to the projects we LOVE close to home in the greater Portland, Maine area, we also have found ourselves taking on a lot of Airbnb Properties in the Bethel Area. These owners either are buying new construction, and therefore in need of everything, or they are sprucing up an older home. This project was the latter, and we tackled 3 rooms that were in desperate need of a refresh: the dining room, living room and game room. One thing all of these owners have in common i[...]

Surf Road Reveal: Saddleback A-Frame

maine mountain home bedroom

In case you missed our Instagram post earlier this week, we've come to the end of an era here at Surf Road. Many of you will know that we spent the better part of 2022 working with Saddleback Mountain to design their staff house as well as 11 A-Frame mountain homes. We recently wrapped the project, finishing the last of the A-Frames, just in time for ski season! I am so excited to show you my favorite A-Frame, and can't wait to hear what you think! The vision was to create a chalet-vibe reminiscent of mountain homes out west, while keeping in mind the mor[...]

My Fall / Thanksgiving Tablescape

Now that the kitchen tour is over I can safely start decorating my house for the new season! While I am super excited to decorate for Halloween, what will stay on the table for the majority of the month is my Fall Tablescape. I'm loving timeless pieces that transcend trends like dried flowers, stoneware vases, candles and pumpkins.[...]

September Recap and Favorite Links

Is this for real!? It legit feels like I was writing the August recap yesterday. Needless to say, this month has FLOWN by. Where do I even begin?! The kids started school this month, Lennon going into 3rd grade and Crawford into 1st. The have both had a great start to the year, but I think I have said we are "over scheduled" at least a dozen times this month. Between cross country, swimming, soccer, gymnastics and flag football, we have something every night of the week just about! I can't even imagine next year when Crawford can also do travel soccer! And there[...]
