Travel inspiration – Meg Goes Down To Boston

design inspiration, boston, surf road travels

Hi everyone - this is Meg, Liz's design assistant. I absolutely love working for Liz / Surf Road and being able to not only practice creative expression in work constantly but also have a flexible schedule which allows for travel. I love traveling for so so many reasons but one that resides pretty close to the top is for creative inspiration. Most of the time while I'm traveling you will see me with my phone or a camera documenting literally everything - it's honestly pretty annoying. I'll then sort through them and filter them by how they inspire me. It makes[...]

surf road interior design studio portland maine, surf road, surf road designs, rendering, sketchup

Did you know that, within the world of interior design, there are actually many hats a designer can wear? It's true! Since we often get questions about the services we offer here at Surf Road, we thought we would share some of the hats we wear, and explain the differences between Interior Designers, Interior Decorators and Interior Stylists.  Often times, the duties of these different roles can overlap, and it can be tricky to know what services you need for you project.  Understanding the differences between interior designer, decorator and stylist will help[...]

Surf Road Valentine’s Day Gift Guide

My Love/Hate With Valentine's DaySure, I love celebrating love just as much as the next girl, but the truth is I'm a little "loved out" by Valentine's Day! With our dating anniversary being in December, Christmas, and then our wedding anniversary in January, it's a loooot of lovey dovey cards to write. Usually we skip it all together, but this year I'm feeling extra grateful for my supportive husband, and in the mood to keep the celebrations going. Of course that means I rounded up a few things I wouldn't mind getting this Valentine's Day, but a lot would work as[...]

Surf Road Paint Color Round Up

design, designer, paint, paint colors, choices, lifestyle, lifestyle blog

Paint is soooo soooo tricky. You pick a color and love it for a year but eventually need a change. The blue you saw in a magazine doesn't quite match your options in store. Light can fade the color on a sun facing wall, etc. etc. etc. But paint is also so fun. You never have to commit to an entire room you can paint an accent wall. you can paint over paint as many times as you like. Go with a subtle color or something bold. Seriously have fun with it! But of course as I'm typing this I am aware that with so many choices picking a paint color can be overwh[...]

winter in maine: our happy place at Saddleback Mountain

If you have been here for a while, and/or follow me on Instagram, you know I spend every winter weekend at Saddleback in Rangeley, Maine. While I am truly so lucky to spend every weekend there, I can't recommend it enough, even if you can get just on weekend at this magical spot. Saddleback, and more specifically Rangeley, is not just a winter destination though, it offers tons to do year round! With some of Maine's largest lakes, plenty of hiking, fishing, off roading (it's a country thing ;)) and mountain biking, there is a little something for everyone. While[...]

Creative gift wrapping – the gift of a well wrapped present

gift wrap, design, interior design, lifestyle blog, wrapping, holidays

The gift below the paper might be the most important part, but that doesn't mean the packaging doesn't make a difference. When I was younger I would watch the gift wrappers at department stores in awe as they turned small boxes into elaborate pieces of art. At the time I thought "that could be me one day" Now I still appreciate the art of wrapping a gift beautifully - just not as a career! There are so many ways to really dress up a package; here are just a few of my favorites. Working with mismatched papers that can exist cohesively, going all out with yo[...]

A MAGICAL PLACE CALLED SNUG HARBOR

snug harbor farm, green house, maine plants

Kennebunk is exactly what people think of when they think of Maine. It’s probably the place most photographed for articles on our beautiful state. However when you ask people what they think of Kennebunk or where their favorite spots are in the area, most talk about downtown Kennebunkport.  Just before getting into town there is a place called Snug Harbor and you’d be a fool to not pull over and look around. This place is a treasure.  Snug Harbor Farm has a lot going on…. Peacocks and a variety of unique bir[...]
