Something New at Surf Road - Event Styling!

Hello Surf Road friends!

Meg writing here - Liz’s camera shy assistant!

If you've been following along with our weekly newsletter, you will know that we are now offering event styling through Surf Road. Why?! A big driving force for that is Liz seeing my excitement over it and being a fantastic boss. It does, however, mean that I have to talk about myself and my background for a minute…. Maybe even on camera… So here we go!

Before moving back to Maine years ago, I was studying and working in the event field in Boston Massachusetts and having the best time doing so. I just missed Maine’s coast and felt the need to come home. When I first came home I immediately immersed myself in volunteer and activism work and one way I was able to feel good about getting involved was through organizing fundraisers for the non profits I was working with. Doing this type of work got me involved with amazing local businesses, like minded people who were interested in building a community as well as die hard followers who will show up when and where you tell them there is a party!

Again I was having the best time doing this work - but also wondering if this was it for me?

I couldn’t see my events life stopping at occasional fundraisers but I couldn’t see myself going corporate either. My thought was that one day the perfect route for me to take in order to focus on the niche events I wanted would just fall into place. Of course over time I realized that’s not the way of life but in the meantime I did have the pleasure of working on a few smaller scale, very personal events and it clicked. This was the type of work I wanted to do.

Through these smaller events the hope is I will be able to make a real connection with our clients, to fully understand their vision. Oftentimes when a person has an idea for an event, whether it be a dinner party, bachelorette party, or birthday, they do have a vision - it can just be difficult to put the vision into words and bring it to fruition if this is not what you do or what comes naturally. That’s where I come in - it does come naturally for me and it brings me great joy to see the look on someone's face when they first walk into a space and take in all of the little aesthetic details that bring their event to life.

Some offerings included in Surf Road's Event Styling are:

  • Floral design
