inside surf road: How to Make Any Shower A Spa Shower and a Sneak-Peek at liz's Haircare Routine

Did you know you can easily make any shower into a spa shower by simply adding a sprig of Eucalyptus to your showerhead?!

Hanging a sprig of Eucalyptus in your shower can reduce stress, improve respiratory health, and generally make your shower that much more soothing! How does it work? The steam from your hot shower releases essential oils from the plant, which has very soothing (albeit temporary) effects!

I stocked up on sprigs for all of my showers at Fiddleheads in Cape Elizabeth, but you can ask your local florist if you want to recreate this look and feel too!

Do you happen to spy my hair care products on the shelf!? Those of you who know me know that over the last year or two I have slowly been becoming more and more blonde. It's not something that is easy to maintain, and the right stylist is ESSENTIAL! (I see Nicky Couch at Canvas Hair Loft in Scarborough). In addition to the right stylist, the right care care products have made all the difference in maintaining my (not so natural) blonde locks.

So what's my routine? I only wash my hair 2-3 times a week, for starters. One wash is a cleansing and toning wash, and the other(s) are restorative and hydrating.

For my cleansing/toning wash I start with a clarifying shampoo, this one is made with apple cider vinegar and is sulfate free. This step removes build up (aka dry shampoo) from my hair, and also strips any current toner. It leaves my hair thiiiirrrrrsssttyyyy for sucking up toner in my next step.

After rinsing out the cleansing shampoo, I use Olaplex No.4P Blonde Enhancer Purple Shampoo. I leave this on for as long as I can stand it, usually 3-5 minutes (ignore what the label says!). This takes out all the brassy yellow and orange tones from my hair, and leaves it nice and blonde again.

Finally I finish the process with the Olaplex Bond Maintenance Conditioner. I leave this on for a couple of minutes, and then rinse and I'm done. On the days when I'm just hydrating, I shampoo first with the Olaplex No.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo, rinse and then use the conditioner.

About 2 times a month I try to do a hair mask which helps hydrate my hair and keep it from getting brittle. Since I bleach my hair every 3-4 months, it can be pretty damaged and dry at times. The mask helps keep the ends healthy between color appointments. I put the Olaplex No. 3 Hair Repair Perfector in at night and sleep in it, rinsing it out in the morning. You don't have to sleep in it, but obviously the more time you leave it in, the better!

Do you have any tips and tricks for keeping your hair healthy?
