How to work....a little color into your NEUTRAL design
Neutrals are classy. Neutrals are ageless, and they're safe! We are totally on board the neutral plane. However, once you decide whites, beiges, tans , and grays are your happy place you don't have to stop the ride!
Working in a pop of color to a neutral inspired space is so very fun. This technique also makes your chosen pieces stand out so much more so it feels very special. Think of it as curating your own exhibit and the art?.... everything that YOU love.
One of our past projects was a "mainly neutral" living room for a lovely couple. They were so bright and colorful in their manner that a strictly colorless living room just would not have worked. Bring in the accents! coffee table books, vases, candle sticks, artwork and more can be the perfect way to liven your space with how ever much color you're comfortable with.
With throw pillows, the side table lamp and carefully placed and selected art pieces we were able to tie different shades of blue into this neutral beauty. The outcome is subtle yet effective and the clients feel very happy and comfortable with the space.
The thing about working color into your neutral space is, you can change it up whenever you have a new favorite color!
To give you an example I'm creating a room based on a made up client who just purchased a vaulted ceiling cabin in Deer Isle. They want to utilize browns and tans to bring out the warmth of the wood but also want a pop of color that will play in to the outdoor scenery throughout the seasons.

The living room is lovely but very plain with no color. The work with the stunning colors of changing leaves in the fall and stand out against the white snow covered forest in winter I'm going with a deep green color as well as a rust orange. This will also look lovely in the spring/summer when it ties into the sunsets. Here are some option for what you could do to spice up this room with the above mentioned colors!
2 or three of these adorable color forward decor elements would really pull the room together.
No need to go overboard - just a simply addition to an already fantastic space.
