Creating a welcoming but family-friendly dining room centerpiece

KEEP IT SIMPLE

Keeping your decor simple is key when you have kids at home. Just take a look at my living room pillows on any given day, and you'll know why most moms are getting theirs at Target instead of having them custom made! The idea of telling my kids to be gentle with literally anything in the house is a losing battle that I am not trying to engage in.

The dining room table is no exception, and the idea of putting an intricate display or expensive piece on the table is a major NO for families with younger kids. Things are always getting spilled, knocked over, and climbed on top of. Keeping it simple and replaceable is essential.

Having said all that, I still believe in creating a beautiful and welcoming home (obviously!) and a Dining Room Centerpiece is essential. Below are some family-friendly ideas to update and elevate your dining space.

A Fruit or Veggie Bowl/basket

A fruit (or veggie, like the artichoke bowl we did above) bowl or basket is a classic centerpiece that is both beautiful and practical. It adds a pop of color (and you can change it out seasonally), and is easily removed from the table when needed.

A Large Vase with Stems or Flowers

One Large vase with seasonal stems (real or faux) or dried flowers is low maintenance and easily removed when needed. Display it alone or in a basket or on a marble Lazy Susan with a candle and some coasters to make a practical and beautiful arrangement.

Dough Bowl with Succulents or Flowers

Add some modern Tuscan (current client fave!) flair to your table with a popular dough bowl. Fill it in with succulents, air plants, dried flowers, or any other bowl filler (you can find tons of options at Target). We brought ours to a local florist above to fill in with a mix of dried flowers and greens that add color and seasonality to the centerpiece and the room.

Suit Your Style

Whether you choose one of the looks above or not, as long as you keep it simple (i.e. easily removable from the table, not too expensive, etc.), you can find something to suit your style and family dynamic. Stick to the color scheme and style already established in your home to provide a cohesive look, and have fun with it! Remember you can switch it out with the seasons or really as often as you want.
