Three Things to Put Over Your Mantel That Are Not Taxidermy

In your short term rental (or even in your primary residence!) the fireplace mantel is a focal point of your living and entertaining space. As such, it provides a great opportunity to display something that sets the tone for your home. Especially in a short term rental you want to be very cognizant of the impression you are making with every decor choice, and don’t want to offend anyone’s senses with your taxidermy, no matter how prized it may be.

So, what can you put over your mantel instead of taxidermy? Here’s my top 3 ideas:

  1. Texture + Light: A thoughtful arrangement of candles of various heights and a beautiful sculptural vase with some fresh or dried greens or even fresh-cut hydrangeas is a beautiful and simple statement that works with any season and any home.

  2. Framed artwork, especially something leaning with maybe a smaller piece layered in front is a great choice, especially if you want to showcase some local flair like a map, or a tourist attraction in your area.

  3. If you must put your TV over the mantel, I always recommend a Frame TV so you can showcase rotating art when it’s not in use as a TV. The Frame is slim and you can choose your frame to match the rest of your decor.
