Design Challenge: Toy Organization
We were recently asked a design challenge question on Instagram about how to organize your kids toys, especially when you don't have a designated room for them (or, really, even if you do!). Since holidays are right around the corner and those toy collections are only getting bigger by year's end, we thought we would reach out to our very own project manager, Stacy, owner of Half Full Organizing, to give us the how to on toy organizing.
As the owner of Half Full Organizing (and Mom of two young girls), I understand the importance of keeping things simple when it comes to toy organization. In this post, we'll explore creative and effective ways to simplify your child’s playspace, ensuring that your children not only enjoy their playtime but also participate in maintaining a clutter-free environment.
Keep it simple (i.e. easy to maintain!)
The cornerstone of effective toy organization is simplicity. The goal is to make the system easy enough for your children to follow. For example, using open bright color baskets might be the best fit for a toddler. This is one of my favorite baskets (that doubles as decor).
Labeled lidded bins for specific toys is more appropriate for an older child. The key here is to choose bins that are the right size for the items they contain. Too big, and miscellaneous toys might find their way in; too small, and pieces could go missing. Keep your child’s age in mind and adjust your expectations accordingly.

Use storage solutions that double function to maximize space. Do you have stuffies taking over your house?? Try this unique solution: a bean bag doubles as stuffed animal storage. My daughters love keeping their animals zipped inside because they enjoy sitting in the chair. This basket is a great play room addition since it doubles as a side table or play table top.

Take Advantage of Heights
Embrace the power of height in your organizational strategy. Storing toys vertically not only frees up valuable floor space for playing but also creates a physical barrier for items you may want to keep out of reach. This is particularly handy for those tie dye kits and the dreaded glitter that might require a bit more supervision.
